Course Name: Physical Science
Course Description:
This course combines math skills and science knowledge as well as hands-on laboratory experiences. The basics of physical science (combination of physics and chemistry) will be studied as well as areas of mathematics. In physics we will look at the four energy systems: mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal. Matter and change will be emphasized along with compounds, formulas, and equations in the Chemistry segment. The units of study will follow the Georgia Performance Standards with an emphasis on the process of science. EOCT is administered at the end of the course, which counts 20% of the final class average. An emphasis will be placed on the reading and literacy strands for the CCGPS in Science.
Learning Objectives – Georgia Performance Standards:
Course Planning Map covers the 4 units of study along with the primary themes, concepts, and learning goals associated with the Georgia Performance Standards for each unit. Students will receive the GPS and these will be placed behind the syllabus in the student notebook. GPS are posted in the science classroom. Standards and elements are core to the curriculum.
Emphasis is placed on the “process of doing science”
Resources used:
1. Class Lectures and discussions. Daily journal writings and reflections.
2. Demonstrations
3. Problem Solving
4. Lab Experiments: (Inquiry based, and Teacher focused)
